Current Use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR)
Basically
Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is not written into laws of football game but is
being tested in a number of leagues and tournaments around the world by the
International Football Association Board (IFAB) which is responsible for those
Laws. For examples, it was first
trialled in the United Soccer League in the United States during a match
between two reserve teams of MLS clubs New York Red Bulls II versus Orlando
City B.
Furthermore,
FIFA has got a closer look at the system at a number of its international
tournaments as for example such as last year Under-20 World Cup and Confederations
Cup in Germany, Italy and Portugal are introduced it for the 2017-18 seasons in
their top competitions, while the Copa Libertadores had Video Assistant Referee
(VAR) from the semi-final stage onwards in 2017.
For
examples, the first decision in International Football Association Board (IFAB)
it only took 40 minutes of Serie A’s (Italian League) opening game for Video
Assistant Referee (VAR) technology to be used for the first time when it was
introduced at the start of this season in Italy. Since then, according to
former referee David Elleray the head of refereeing for International Football
Association Board (IFAB) “But since then it has settled down and is now
generally used about once in three or four matches. The technology has also been used in
Germany's Bundesliga and in MLS in the United States, and was also available
for England's two goalless friendlies with Germany and Brazil last November,
which passed without incident.
